Virginia E. Buchmann

Virginia Elaine (Whitney) Buchmann, 89, of Blairsville, PA, formerly of Sayre, PA, passed away on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at the home of her son, Rev. John Buchmann, Blairsville, PA.
The daughter of John E. and Melvina (Warren) Whitney, she was born January 8, 1930 in Susquehanna, PA.
Mrs. Buchmann attended the North Waverly Chapel, Waverly, NY where she was in charge of the nursery and attended the Chemung Christian Fellowship, Chemung, NY.
She was the owner of a guest home in Sayer where she shared her gift of hospitality and encouragement for people who had a family member in the hospital and she also volunteered with events at the Sayre Theater.
Mrs. Buchmann loved her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren and enjoyed singing, knitting and gardening.
Surviving are five children, Gloria Ciavardini of Chemung, NY; Valerie Waite (Rev. Tim) of Madison, TN; Thomas G. Buchmann II (Willette) of Concord, NC; Rev. John L. Buchmann (Belinda) of Blairsville and Brian P. Buchmann of Sayre; 19 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren, 20 great-great grandchildren and a brother, Dr. Leslie Whitney of Glen Mills, PA.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Thomas G. Buchmann, a brother, Rev. Gordon Whitney and two sisters, Lois Folk and Esther Crist.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA.  A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home with her son, Rev. John L. Buchmann officiating.
Interment will be in Olive Branch Cemetery, Belle Vernon, PA.
