David E. Dunlap

David Edwin Dunlap, 75, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2018 at West Penn Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.
The son of Paul H. and Helen (Evans) Dunlap, he was born February 3, 1943 in Blairsville, PA.
Dave was a member of SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, and was a life member of BPOE #406, Blairsville.
He graduated from Blairsville High School, Class of 1962 where he lettered four years in football, basketball and track.
He was active in the United States Army National Guard for 26 years, retiring as a major and worked for 40 years for Helen Mining Company and 5 years for National Mine Service as a purchasing agent, retiring in 2003. He also worked many years for Chestnut Ridge Golf Course and Shoemaker Funeral Home.
Dave was an avid Blairsville sports fan of basketball and football and especially of SS Simon & Jude Boilermakers football.  He started the Dunlap Easter Open 27 years ago, enjoyed pool, hunting, fishing and golf.
His pride and joy was watching his grandchildren participate in their sports.
Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Kathleen M. (Flasick) Dunlap whom he married June 13, 1970; three sons, Dr. John P. Dunlap and wife, Dr. Mara of Gibsonia; Dr. Adam D. Dunlap and wife, Kimberly of Blairsville and Andrew R. Dunlap and wife, Alenna of Gibsonia; seven grandchildren, Roman, Marco, Bailey, Madigan, Maren, Ella and Amira Dunlap; a brother, Robert Dunlap and wife, Beverly of Gainesville, FL and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Bettie Jo Bush and Diane L. Dunlap.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday and 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA where a Wake service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Friday.  Prayers of Transfer will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 A.M. Saturday followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, with Fr. Stephen R. Bugay celebrant.
Interment will be in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, PA
Military service will be accorded by Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.
