Alfred Tedeschi, 98, of Black Lick, PA passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2018 in the Communities at Indian Haven, Indiana, PA.
The son of Egildo and Albina (Gabelli) Tedeschi, he was born August 13, 1920 in Palmertown, PA.
Mr. Tedeschi was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Coral site, life member of Blairsville VFW Post #5821, member of Burrell Township Rod and Gun Club and Blairsville Italian Club.
He was a World War II Army veteran having served under General George Patton. He was in the Battle of the Bulge and sustained wounds in the Invasion of Southern France. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart.
Mr. Tedeschi worked as a coal miner for 40 years, retiring from Consol Energy.
He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved making a huge garden to give to his family and friends.
Surviving are a son, Michael E. Tedeschi (Sherry) of Indiana; a stepson, George Laufer (Karen) of Williamsburg, VA; two grandchildren, Valerie Arnold and Eric Laufer; four great grandchildren; a brother, James Tedeschi of Wickliffe, OH and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Rita (VonKrug) Tedeschi in 2013, a stepdaughter, Linda Daugherty, a granddaughter, Patty Houck, seven sisters, Anna Fernandez, Lena Strini, Inez Sontag, Jennie Moreno, Rose Caruso, Hazel Evanick and infant sister, Gemma.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 7 P.M. Friday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA where a Wake service will be held at 6:30 P.M. Friday. Prayers of Transfer will be held at 9:15 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. at SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, PA with Fr. Stephen R. Bugay celebrant.
Interment will be in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
Military service will be accorded by Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.
A special thank you to granddaughter, Valerie for taking care of him and Paul and Debbie, Fred and Toni and Spade for helping him over the years. Also, a special thank you to VNA Hospice for their help the last few weeks.
