Alice A. Zemba

            Alice Ann (Ash) Zemba, 74, of Black Lick, PA passed away on Thursday, June 14, 2018 at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA.           The daughter of William O. and Mabel L. (Albright) Ash, she was born April 23, 1944, in Coy, PA.           Alice graduated from Blairsville High School in 1962 and from Indiana Hospital School of Nursing in 1965. She received her Bachelor of Science degree in education and masters of Science degree from California University of PA and had a certification in nursing administration and a school nurse certification.           She worked for 31 ½ years at Torrance State Hospital, retiring as the Director of Nursing.           Alice was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, Coral site, where she was a member of the Christian Mothers, she was on the board of trustees at Ebensburg State Hospital, charter member of Blairsville F.O.E #1488 Ladies Auxiliary, life member of the Black Lick Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, Red Hat Society, and was a volunteer for many other organizations.           She enjoyed spending winters in Florida with her husband, going on cruises and camping.           Surviving are her husband of 54 years, John A. Zemba whom she married April 26, 1964; daughter, Beth Ann Small (Chuck) of Marshall Heights; two grandchildren, Emily and Charlie; two brothers, Tom Ash (Stacie) of Homer City and Tim Ash of Blairsville; three sisters, Rita Zimmerman of Blairsville; Susan Ash Miller (Rick Dobrick) of Blairsville and Sally Ash DeArmitt (Rodney) of Brush Valley and several nieces and nephews.           She was preceded in death by her parents, an infant brother, Silas, brother, Bill Ash and a sister, Jean Peterson.           The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Saturday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday at the funeral home with Rev. Cory A.
