John D. “Bo” Sloan, 66, of Bristol, VA passed away on Friday, June 8, 2018 at the Bristol Regional Medical Center, Bristol, TN.
The son of John and Virginia M. (Clawson) Sloan, he was born November 29, 1951 in Indiana, PA.
He was a Christian.
Bo graduated from Derry High School in 1969 and retired from Change Healthcare as a computer technician.
He was a veteran of the Army, having served in the Vietnam War.
Bo was a talented musician, singer and songwriter. He started locally with Bo Sloan Band, Seneca Trail, Sons of Time and Blue Spruce. He then moved to Nashville and performed with Ronnie McDowell, Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn and Lou Christie.
Surviving are his wife, Deborah L. (Robinette) Sloan; his mother, Virginia M. (Clawson) Sloan of Blairsville; two stepchildren, Tom Salyers (Jenn) of Newport News, VA and Christopher Salyers (Tiffany) of Pikeville, KY; a brother, Michael P. Sloan (Sharon) of Blairsville; three sisters, Sandy M. George (Bob) of Blairsville; Linda G. Meloy (Jim) of Derry and Mary Lou Bracken (Duane) of Blairsville; five step grandchildren, James, Samantha, Isabella, Gabriella and Elijah Salyers and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, a niece, Holly George and a nephew, Robert C. George, III.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Timothy R. Monroe officiating.
Interment will be in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
