George Sracic

George “Gar” Sracic, 89, of Lenoir City, TN, formerly of Blairsville, passed away on Thursday, May 10, 2018 at the home of his daughter.

The son of Frank Andrew and Antonia Mary (Frylan) Sracic, he was born May 31, 1928 in Charles, PA.

Mr. Sracic was a member of the Black Lick United Methodist Church.

He worked for Torrance State Hospital for 34 years, retiring in 1988, and was a World War II Navy veteran.

Mr. Sracic was an avid golfer, avid fan of Blairsville High School sports and loved the Pittsburgh Pirates. He played ball for Brenizer Mines, New Derry and Black Lick baseball teams and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his daughter, Sheila Capitosti (Gary) of Lenoir City, TN; two grandchildren, Dr. Gregory J. Capitosti (Jill) and Dr. Scott M. Capitosti (Amanda); four great grandchildren, Benjamin Gregory, Andrew John, Emily Madison and Grant Michael; two sisters, Elizabeth Friend of Deming, NM and Annie Collins (Gary) of Austin, TX and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy G. (Miller) Sracic in 2005; three brothers, John, Nick and Robert Sracic and two sisters, Mary Muir and Josephine Piper.

A private visitation will be held at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA where a funeral service will be held with Rev. Dawn Krishart officiating.

Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.

Military services will be accorded by Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.

If desired, memorial donations may be made to Action of Animals, P.O. Box 814, Latrobe, PA 15650, in memory of Mr. Sracic.
