It is with great sadness that the family of Lorna Gibson of Atlanta, GA announces her passing at her home on Saturday, April 14, 2018, after a brief illness. Lorna, also known as "Babe" was born January 9, 1955, in Latrobe Pennsylvania. The daughter of Geneva (Eva) Williams and Earl Van Lawson.
Lorna grew up in the Greensburg and Adamsburg area where she graduated from Hempfield Senior High School in 1972. After high school, she went on to study child development at the University of Pittsburgh and graduated in 1976. She was able to find employment as a school teacher in Pennsylvania, but then she decided to relocate to Atlanta Georgia, where she became a member of Hillside Truth Center and worked as a child development teacher. An opportunity opened for her to work for a new radio station in Atlanta, so she changed jobs to work for KISS 104 FM, as an Account Executive.
After working at KISS 104 FM, Lorna lived with her mother, where she continued to love listening to music especially Motown, and going out to the movies every Monday night. She also enjoyed reading books on Archaeology and books on Faith. Her favorite magazine to read was "O" and Yes, she was a fan of Oprah. She was also a huge LA Lakers and Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Lorna will be forever remembered by her mother, Geneva Williams of Atlanta, GA, her uncle, Seth Gibson and his wife, Venet of Blairsville, PA, and her aunt, Mary Gibson, of Washington, D.C. Cherished childhood memories are shared by her numerous cousins and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her half brother, Earl Van Lawson Jr.
Lorna's last words to her mother before going home to be with the Lord was, For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. 2 Tim 1:7.
Today and everyday, let us remember Lorna's last gift given to us, God's Word, for God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Ronnie C. Morris, Sr. officiating.
