Anne I. Mekic

Anne Irene “Smith” Mekic, 93, passed away on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Mercy Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. She was born January 19, 1925, to the late John Smith and Mae “Lewis” Smith.

Anne graduated from Derry Township High School in 1942 and married her high school sweetheart, the late Herman L. Mekic that same year. She worked as a Psychiatric Aide at Torrance State Hospital for thirty years, retiring in 1985. In her early years, she enjoyed dancing and traveling. She was an avid sports fan, watching all of the Pittsburgh sports teams, and enjoyed cooking, reading and spending quality time with friends and family through the years.

In addition to her parents, Anne was preceded in death by her late husband of 56 years Herman L. Mekic; as well as her great grandson, Jeremy Mekic. She is survived by three sons, Gary L. Mekic of Brenizer, PA, Richard M. Mekic (Gloria) of Brook Park, OH, and Terry A. Mekic of Brenizer, PA; as well as six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, four great, great-grandchildren and several cousins.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4pm and 6 to 8pm Tuesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. The funeral service, officiated by Pastor Jason Losier will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday at the funeral home. Following the service, the internment will be held at the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
