Darel S. Hinton, Sr.

Darel Shaefer Hinton, Sr., 74, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Thursday, January 25, 2018 in the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.

The son of Earl M. and Hannah M. (Shaefer) Hinton, he was born February 21, 1943 in Pitcairn, PA.

Darel worked as a correctional officer at the State Correctional Institution-Greensburg for more than 25 years and was a veteran of the US Army having served during the Vietnam War.

He was a member of the Claysburg American Legion #0522 and the National Rifle Association.

He enjoyed fishing.

Surviving are a son, Darel S. Hinton, Jr. of Pittsburgh; daughter, Leah M. Hinton of Blairsville; stepdaughter, Amy L. Donahugh of Blairsville; five grandchildren, Shawn Donahugh, Austin Rodkey, Simon Hinton, Mary Leah Bollinger and Kali Bollinger.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Mary Jane (Paros) Hinton on July 21, 2011.

As per Darel’s wishes, there will be no visitation or memorial service.
