?Wilma Harriet (Korver) Petersen, 88, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Wednesday, January 24, 2018 surrounded by her loving family at the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.
The daughter of Henry M. and Grace G. (Muyskens) Korver, she was born December 30, 1929 in Alton, Iowa.
Mrs. Petersen graduated early from Newkirk High School at the age of 16.  As she was too young to start nurses training, she attended Northwestern College in Orange City and then went on to the Methodist Hospital School of Nursing, Sioux City, Iowa.  She completed her Bachelor of Arts at Central College of Pella, Iowa.
During her marriage she worked as a nurse, and also fulfilled the role of a pastor’s wife in Illinois, Minnesota and Iowa before moving to Pennsylvania.
She lived the last 45 years in Blairsville and worked at the Indiana Hospital as a registered nurse for 16 years, retiring in 1994.
Mrs. Petersen was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Blairsville, and a member of the former Century Club.  She loved music, performing arts, and travel.
She had her own deep faith in the Lord as well as being supportive of her husband’s ministry in Indiana County.
Her life was all about her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was passionate about caring for her family and delighted in preparing meals and making occasions special.
Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Rev. Dr. Roger D. Petersen, whom she married June 4, 1953; two sons, Paul D. Petersen and his wife, Rosie of Clinton Twp., MI and Mark A. Petersen of Greencastle and a daughter, Anne Arnold and her husband, Andrew of Fairfax, VA; three grandchildren, Brad Petersen and wife, Michelle, David Petersen and Erika Petersen; three great grandchildren, Dean, Samantha and Jacob Petersen; two brothers, Marvin Korver and his wife, Norma of Le Mars, IA and Cornelius "Casey" Korver and his wife, Gladys of Orange City, IA; two sisters, Marlys DeWild and her husband, Al of Pella, IA and Lorraine Brink of Owasso, OK and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Loretta DeHaan, and three brothers-in-law.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Saturday and from 12 to 3 P.M. Sunday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the United Presbyterian Church, 137 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA with Rev. Timothy R. Monroe officiating.
Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
