Robert W. Goodlin, Sr.

Robert Wayne Goodlin, Sr., 91, of Blairsville, PA (Blacklick Twp.) passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018 at the home of his daughter, Vickie Shaffer, with whom he lived the last 15 years.

The son of Harry D. and Elsie (Cobes) Goodlin, he was born September 23, 1926 in Brenizer, PA.

Mr. Goodlin was a member of the Hebron Lutheran Church, Blairsville, oldest living member of Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and a 60-year member of American Legion Post #0407.

He was a veteran of the US Navy having served with honor during World War II on the USS Butte.

Prior to his retirement in 1989, he was employed by Blairsville Machine Products for 35 years.

He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Surviving are two sons, Robert W. Goodlin, Jr. (Sherri) of Blairsville and Mark J. Goodlin (Robin) of Blairsville; a daughter, Vickie Shaffer (Arley) of Blairsville; eight grandchildren, Brooke Pierce, Luke Goodlin, Jamie Gales, Tara Shaffer, Seth Goodlin, Logan Goodlin, Linsey McFerron and Michael Leonard; seven great grandchildren, Paighton Pierce, Gage Pierce, Marcus Goodlin, Ryder Goodlin, Alivia Goodlin, Vincent Goodlin and Casey McFerron; a sister, Patricia Cribbs of Blairsville; special friends, Bill and Dorothy Long of Blairsville and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Virginia (Burpee) Goodlin in 1996; an infant brother, John Harry Goodlin, brothers, Clyde and Arkey Goodlin and five sisters, Dot Cardellino, Mabel Grdgon, Betty Mullen, Jean Smith and Emily Paouncic.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Ryan Kobert officiating.

Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.

Military services will be accorded by Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.
