John Thomas Marron, Jr., 90, of Blairsville, PA (Derry Twp.) passed away on Saturday, December 2, 2017 at his home surrounded by loved ones.
The son of John T. Marron, Sr. and Margaret (Devers) Marron, he was born September 22, 1927 in Derry Twp., Westmoreland Co., PA.
Mr. Marron was an active member of SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville; Past Grand Knight and past financial secretary of the Knights of Columbus #3624; member of VFW Post #5821 and Blairsville AMVETS.
He graduated from Derry High School in 1946 and was a corporal in the US Army with the Signal Corp stationed in Occupied Germany.
He was a union steelworker working as a chemist at Teledyne VASCO, Latrobe, for 36 years, retiring in 1988.
As a young man he helped his Dad driving truck for Marron Trucking Co. and worked the family farm.
Mr. Marron was a skilled building contractor and helped everyone who asked. He was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates and Penguins and enjoyed hunting and fishing, locally and in Canada.
Surviving are his loving wife of 66 years, Martha M. (Soltis) Marron whom he married September 29, 1951; five children, John T. Marron III (Mary) of Newark, OH; Bonnie Marron (Donald Griffin) of Latrobe; Michael P. Marron (Diane) of Blairsville; Marty A. Stuchell (Todd) of Creekside and J. Gregory Marron (Jennifer) of Palmyra; nine grandchildren, John T. Marron IV, Bradlee Marron (Alyssia), Evan Marron, Matthew Marron, Tyler Stuchell (Jessica), Cheyenne Swanson (Brent), Maverick Stuchell, Bret Marron and Megan Marron; four great grandchildren, Julijana Marron, Aura Stuchell, Klein Stuchell and Lyland Swanson; one sister, Isabelle Shirley of Lima, NY; two brothers, Joseph Marron (Gloria) of Blairsville and Theodore Marron (Nancy) of Frederick, MD and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Rita Wagner, Rosemary Laughlin and Ruth Hill; two brothers, Patrick Marron and Robert Marron and a great grandson, Killian Stuchell.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA where a Wake Service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Tuesday. Parting Prayers will be said at 9:15 A.M. Wednesday in the funeral home followed by a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, with Fr. Stephen R. Bugay as celebrant.
Interment will be in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
Military service will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.
