Paul D. Gundy

Paul David Gundy, 94, of Blairsville, PA, passed away on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the Loyalhanna Care Center, Latrobe, PA.

The son of John Herbert Milton Johnson Gundy and Mary Antoinette (Krych) Gundy, he was born September 1, 1923 in New Alexandria, PA.

Paul was a member of The United Presbyterian Church of Blairsville and retired in 1986 from Westinghouse.

He served in the Army during World War II in France and received the Purple Heart.

He enjoyed making quilts, repairing sewing machines and making many woodcrafts giving generously to family and friends. His pride and joy was making a dollhouse for his only granddaughter.

Paul was known to so many as Dad, O.T., PopPop, Uncle Paul, Peabody, Uncle “P” and Uncle Punk.

Surviving are his daughter, Stacy Rinker and son-in-law, David of Hunlock Creek; three grandchildren, David of Green Lane; Derek of Barto; and Kelli of Hunlock Creek; great grandson, Dylon of Barto; brother, Bob Gundy (Karen) of Fairfield Glade, TN; sister, Ella Wodowski of Blairsville; numerous nieces and nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn B. (Hull) Gundy on June 21, 1990; seven siblings, Beryl Pryor, Albert Gundy, Fred Gundy, Sally Jennings, Edith Locke, Peggy Matviya and Nelson Gundy and a great niece, Janessa (J.J.) Fleming.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday and from 10 to 11 A.M. Monday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Cory A. Braatz officiating.

Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery.

Military services will be accorded by Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.
