David D. Mcgowan

David Daniel McGowan, 81, of Blairsville, PA, passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2017 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.

The son of George and Alice (Branch) McGowan, he was born July 11, 1936 in Blairsville, PA.

Mr. McGowan graduated from Blairsville High School in 1955 and worked at Derry Westinghouse, retiring in 1994. He also worked at Blairsville Bilo and for the last seven years at Blairsville Walmart.

He was a member of Christ Temple Church of God in Christ, Brenizer.

He was an avid sports fan and umpired softball and baseball for 35 years in the state of Pennsylvania.

Surviving are three children, Dawn B. Charles (James) of Chula Vista, CA; Dana E. McGowan of Orlando, FL and Dewayne G. McGowan of Waldorf, MD; four grandchildren, Ebonie, Desiree, Isaiah and Christian, four great grandchildren; a brother, Freddie McGowan of Pittsburgh and a sister, Lucille McGowan of Johnstown and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Sally B. (Bennett) McGowan on October 21, 2009; a son, David on March 9, 1986; four brothers, Isaac, Frederick, Columbus and Bobby and a sister, Georgia Mae Warren.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday at the Shoemaker funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at Christ Temple Ministries, Brenizer, with Pastor Calvin McCoy officiating.

Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
