Daniel J. O'Neil

Daniel Jay O’Neil, 70, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017 at his home.

The son of James N. and Mary Lou (Taylor) O’Neil, he was born March 16, 1947 in Indiana, PA.

Dan graduated from Blairsville High School in 1965 and was a member of the VFW Post #5821, Blairsville.

He was a US Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was very proud of his service in the Vietnam War and was the recipient of the Purple Heart.

Dan worked 35 years as a truck driver, retiring in 2005. He drove truck for various trucking companies including, Davis Trucking, Knight Transportation and Taylor Trucking.

He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Surviving are his daughter, Lynne Temple (Bob) of Polk, Ohio; five grandchildren, Misty Hatch, Brooke Temple, Landen Temple, Chase Temple and Mason Temple; a brother, Raymond O’Neil (Dianna) of Spring Church; four sisters, Carol Lopez (Ron) of Pixley, CA; Nancy Chapla (Bob) of Josephine; Beverly Hughes (Dave) of Blairsville and Diane Branthoover (Bruce) of New Alexandria and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James O’Neil and three sisters, Linda Porter, Kathleen Tarr and Peggy Ahlborn.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday in the funeral home with Rev. Robert Dunsmore officiating.

Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.

Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.
