Helen (Kull) Chakot, 90, of Black Lick, PA, passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017 in Country Living Personal Care Home, Blairsville, PA.
The daughter of Efim and Mary (Totura) Kull, she was born November 15, 1926 in Bayside, NY.
Mrs. Chakot was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Black Lick, where she sang in the church choir, was very active in making pierogies and nut rolls and helping with all the church meals.
She reached out to many IUP students and was known as Aunt Helen.
Prior to her retirement in 1984, she worked at Torrance State Hospital as an aide.
Surviving are two sons, John Paul (Mary Jane) Chakot of Indiana and George A. Chakot of Black Lick; three grandsons, Adam (Genna) Chakot, Lucas (Haley) Chakot and Marcus Chakot; a sister, Vera Brezinski of Shoreham, NY; a brother, John (Audrey) Kull of Attleboro, MA; several cousins in Slovakia and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Peter Chakot, Jr. on December 26, 1992 and a brother, Alex Kull.
A special thank you to the VNA, especially Jeanne Clark and her hospice staff, Cathy Thompson and her staff at Country Living Personal Care Home and to Dr. Matt Klain and staff.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA where a Panihida Service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Wednesday. A Burial Service will be held at 10:00 A.M. Thursday in St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Black Lick, PA with The Very Rev. Mark Meholick and The Very Rev. Andre Alexiev officiating.
Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
