Donald S. Potochniak

Donald Stephen Potochniak, 72, of New Florence, PA passed away on Friday, June 9, 2017 at his home.

The son of Steve J. and Ethel G. (Layman) Potochniak, he was born December 26, 1944 in Johnstown, PA.

Don was a member of Germany United Methodist Church, New Florence; B.P.O.E #406, Blairsville; LaMonte Lodge #568 F & AM, Derry and a life member of Laurel Run Gun Club.

He loved spending time with his family, enjoyed fishing in Arkansas and hunting.

He worked 35 years for the United States Department of Defense, retiring as a chief quality assurance representative.

Surviving are his wife of 52 years, E. Jane (Corson) Potochniak whom he married February 20, 1965; a daughter, Sherri Hall (James) of Homer City; a son, Michael Potochniak (Lisa) of Montpelier, VA; four grandchildren, Tara McGinnis, Eric Hall, Jeremy Hall and Isabel Potochniak; two great grandchildren, Piper McGinnis and Jackson McGinnis and a sister, Patricia McGinnis.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, James Potochniak.

As per Don’s wishes, there will be no visitation or memorial service.

Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA has been entrusted with the arrangements.
