James Thomas Compton, 81, of Indiana, PA passed away on Sunday, April 9, 2017 at Specialty Care, Johnstown, PA.
The son of Blaine L. and Mary E. (Monroe) Compton, he was born March 13, 1936 in Indiana, PA.
Mr. Compton graduated from Saltsburg High School in 1953, Kiski Prep in 1954 and from Penn State in 1958 with a bachelor’s of science in Agriculture.
He was a self-employed farmer for 43 years in the Clarksburg area.
Mr. Compton was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Clarksburg, where he was a ruling elder, member of the Delta Theta Sigma Agriculture Fraternity, served 19 years on the Board of Directors for Milk Marketing Inc., was a UDIA Director for 15 years and served eight years for Pennsylvania Dairy Promotion.
Surviving are his wife, Joan (Schofield) Compton; two sons, J. William Compton (Linda) of Clarksburg and Barry T. Compton (Duffy) of Johnstown and a daughter, Cheryl Capozoli (Keith) of West Mifflin; eight grandchildren, Angela Coleman, Stephanie Halicke, Rebecca Compton, Jessica Titcomb, Elizabeth Compton, James Black, Nicholas Black and Colby Black; eight great-grandchildren and sister, Janet Murphy of Saltsburg.
He was preceded in death by his parents; stepmother, Lucille Compton; first wife, Mary Jo (Stine) Compton on March 11, 2008; and a sister, Virginia Cosgrove.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Clarksburg, with Rev. Brett Hoover officiating.
Interment will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Saltsburg, PA.
