Homer T. Mcdowell, Jr.

Homer Turner McDowell, Jr., 82, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at Loyalhanna Care Center, Latrobe, PA.

The son of Homer T. McDowell, Sr. and Edith (Coy) McDowell, he was born October 29, 1934 in Heshbon, PA (Indiana County).

Homer was a member of Blairsville B.P.O.E.#406 and the F.O.E. #1488 and was a member of the Homer City American Legion Post #493 where he enjoyed drinking coffee every morning with his friends. He loved his Pittsburgh sports teams, playing cards and spending time with his family.

He was a veteran of the US Air Force.

Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Vulcan Mold and Iron Company, Latrobe.

Surviving are four children, Homer T. McDowell, III (Juanita) of Clarksburg; Edward J. McDowell (Drew) of New Castle; Keith D. McDowell (Lorie) of Blairsville and Valarie J. Trimarchi (Bill) of Woodbridge, VA; five grandchildren, Sadie McDowell, Madison McDowell, Ashlyn McDowell, Bryson McDowell and Alexandra McDowell; companion, Rethea Bennett of Blairsville; five brothers, Robert McDowell of Indiana, Albert McDowell of Owings, MD, Bobby Campbell of South Carolina, Frank Campbell of Florida and Johnny Campbell of South Carolina; six sisters, Henrietta Evans of Blairsville, Shirley Chambers of Punxsutawney, Mary Renwick of Saltsburg, Dorothy Lyons of Alexandria, VA, Ann Silbaugh of Brush Valley and Clara Chambers of Punxsutawney; sister-in-law, Helen McDowell of Indiana and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Donna M. (Marsh) McDowell on August 10, 2004; stepmother, Anne McDowell; brother, Ralph McDowell and two sisters, Martha McDowell and Virginia McDowell.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Saturday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA.

Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana, PA.

Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407 will conduct military services at 8:00 P.M. Saturday in the funeral home.
