Leo J. Penatzer

Leo Joseph Penatzer, 88, of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, formerly of Blairsville, passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at the University Hospital and Medical Center, Tamarac, FL.

The son of William F. and Patience (Stock) Penatzer, he was born March 12, 1928 in Blairsville, PA.

Mr. Penatzer was a member of SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville.

He graduated from Blairsville High School in 1946 and from St. Vincent College in 1950 with a degree in business.

He was a veteran of the Army and worked for Kennametal for 33 years, retiring in 1986. After moving to Florida, he worked for Centex Home Builders for 10 years.

Mr. Penatzer enjoyed meeting his friends at McDonalds for coffee everyday, going to the Senior Center, eating out and going walking at the mall with his daughter and granddaughter.

Surviving are his daughter, Lisa McLaughlin and her husband, Dana, of Coconut Creek, FL and a granddaughter, Lauren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Mary (Pohuski) Penatzer on October 18, 2002; a brother, William Penatzer and a sister, Vera I. Penatzer.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA where a Wake service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Sunday. Prayers of Transfer will be said in the funeral home at 9:15 A.M. Monday followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. in SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, PA with Fr. Stephen R. Bugay as celebrant.

Interment will be in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.

Military services will be accorded by Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.
