Joseph Bruzda

Joseph Bruzda, 89, of Saltsburg, PA passed away on Tuesday, November 1, 2016 at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital, Latrobe, PA.

The son of Stephen and Barbara (Straka) Bruzda, he was born April 6, 1927 in Grafton, PA.

He was a veteran of the Navy and Joe was co-owner, with his wife, Roxie, of Joe’s Place, Tunnelton.

Joe was a member of the Saltsburg American Legion Post #57, Blairsville Loyal Order of Moose, and a life member of the Tunnelton Fire Dept.

He was an avid hunter.

Surviving are three sons, David J. (Peggy) Bruzda of Saltsburg; Michael R. Bruzda of Tunnelton and John S. (Barb) Bruzda; daughter, Mary Ann (Brad) Hornick of Mt. Pleasant; nine grandchildren, Janice (Scott) Jordan, Amanda (Anthony) Darazio, David (Sarah) Bruzda, Layla Bruzda, Ginae Bruzda (fiancé, Brody), Ginelle (Kyle) Lightner, Ginine Bruzda, Ashlyn Hornick and Ty Hornick; five great grandchildren, Brianna, Aiden, Alexa, Kendall and Reagan; brother, Michael Bruzda of Saltsburg and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Roxie A. (Crusan) Bruzda on October 24, 2016; daughter, Barbara Bruzda in 1978; two brothers, Steven and infant John and four sisters, Margaret Iddings, Mary Lenio, Ann Karadus and Elizabeth Gardner.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Cory A. Braatz officiating.

Interment will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Saltsburg, PA.

Military services will be accorded by Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.
