John Pavelchick, Sr., 86, of New Derry, PA passed away on Friday, September 9, 2016 at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital, Latrobe, PA.
The son of Andrew and Julia (Nazadi) Pavelchick, he was born February 19, 1930 in Josephine, PA.
Mr. Pavelchick was a member of the Chapel of Hope, Black Lick.
He worked 45 years for the B&O Railroad, retiring as a foreman.
He loved bowling, fishing, hunting, working in his yard, being with his grandchildren and watching the Pirates.
Surviving are two daughters, Hope Reid (J. Michael) of Saltsburg and Millissa Kozenko (Michael) of Latrobe; eight grandchildren, Chris Pavelchick, Josh Reid, Shane Reid, Ashley Reid, Michael Kozenko, Heidi Reid, John Pavelchick and Jeremy Pavelchick; eight great-grandchildren; a brother, Steve Pavelchick of Brush Valley; two step-brothers, George Saliga of Blairsville and Richard Saliga of Blairsville and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Thelma E. (Mardis) Pavelchick on September 26, 2010; a son, John Pavelchick, Jr. in 1982; four brothers, Frank Pavelchick, Tom Pavelchick, Andrew Pavelchick and Adam Pavelchick; a step-brother, Mike Saliga and four sisters, Mary Edwards, Martha Hill, Victoria McCurdy and Ann Pazskow.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. David Kimball officiating.
Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
