J. Wayne George

Wayne George, 80, of Blairsville, PA, passed away on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.

The son of Joseph Glenn and Helen J. (Berenbrok) George, he was born July 28, 1936 in Blairsville, PA.

Wayne graduated from Blairsville High School in 1954 and from the University of Pittsburgh in 1963 with a bachelors of Science degree in chemical engineering and received his MBA from the University of Pittsburgh in 1972.

He worked for Westinghouse Specialty Metals, Blairsville, for 30 years as a chemical engineer, retiring in 2000.

He was a member of SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Acacia Lodge #355 F&AM, Kiwanis and BPOE #406, all of Blairsville. He also served on the Blairsville Municipal Authority for 38 years and on the Blairsville-Saltsburg School Board.

Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years, Elizabeth A. “Betty” (Novotny) George whom he married October 11, 1958; a son, Eric Glenn George (Krissa), of Holland, PA; two daughters, Stephanie L. Laubacher (Edward) of Wexford, PA and Amy J. Cook (Andrew) of Oak Park, CA; eight grandchildren, Annalise George, Thayne George, Kyra Laubacher, Charlotte Laubacher, Callie Laubacher, William Laubacher, Sasha Cook and Jonah Cook; sister, Mary Jane Brown of Blairsville and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Monday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA where a wake service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Monday. Prayers of Transfer will be said at 9:30 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home followed by a funeral mass at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at SS Simon & Jude Roman Catholic Church, Blairsville, with Fr. Stephen R. Bugay as celebrant.

Interment will be in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville.

If desired, memorials may be made in to the American Diabetes Association or to the Alzheimer’s Association. Wayne was a 60-year A1C champion to the American Diabetes Association.
