Sarah Pearl (Lichtenfels) Shirley, 89, of Indiana, PA passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Tuesday, July 5, 2016 in the Communities at Indian Haven, Indiana, PA.
The daughter of Paul StClair Lichtenfels and Lillian V. (Murphy) Lichtenfels, she was born May 25, 1927 in West Wheatfield Twp., PA.
Mrs. Shirley worked for the US Weather Bureau for 28 years, retiring in 1970, and worked as a cook for Indiana County Head Start for 30 years.
She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, volunteering at the Indiana County Federal Credit Union, playing bingo and watching television.
Surviving are seven children, five boys, Ronald D. Shirley (Alice) of Dickson, TN; Don R. Shirley (Carol) of Blairsville; Richard D. Shirley (Kathleen) of New Derry; Patrick E. Shirley (Carla) of Blairsville and Timothy C. Shirley of Indiana; two daughters, Bonnie Raney of Homer City and Nancy Shirley of Ebensburg; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; a brother, Thomas Lichtenfels (Patricia) of Norman, OK and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert E. Shirley in 2003; a granddaughter, Robin Young; a grandson, Ronald Shirley; a great-grandson, Anthony Michael Shirley; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Shirley; a brother, Ralph Lichtenfels and two sisters, Susan Sullinger and Blanche Cochran.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Thursday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Friday at the funeral home with Rev. Timothy R. Monroe officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. Tabor Cemetery, West Wheatfield Twp., PA.
