John Louis Lonetti, 62, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Friday, July 1, 2016 at Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.
The son of John and Joanne (Bodnar) Lonetti, he was born June 8, 1954 in Indiana, PA.
John attended Homer Center High School and was a veteran of the Army. While John was in the Army, he was voted Soldier of the Year two times.
He was a coal miner for 17 years and was a member of United Mine Workers of America #1412 and worked as the assistant to the president of UMWA for 25 years, until his retirement.
John was a member of St. Thomas More University Parish, Indiana; lifetime member of Vietnam Veterans of America; Black Lick Sportsmen’s Club; Burrell Rod and Gun Club and VFW Post #343, Barnesboro.
Surviving are his wife, Anna Marie (Mytrysak) Lonetti whom he married November 27, 1999; a daughter, Christine Wright (Jeffrey) of Munhall; a son, Nicholas Lonetti (fiancée, Brenda Peterman) of Indiana; a stepdaughter, Anne Pynos (Bernard) of Blairsville; two stepsons, Eric Sobota (Jerry) of Washington, DC and Edward Sobota of Blairsville; five grandchildren, Dominic John Lonetti, Isabel, Abigail, Jacob and Ashley Pynos; a brother, David Haladay of Lubbock, TX; two sisters, Mary Lynn Kasunic of Phoenix, AZ and Diana Haladay of Dubai and father-in-law, John Mytrysak of Blairsville.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Fr. Alan Polczynski and Fr. Mike Crookston will concelebrate a funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at St. Thomas More University Parish, Indiana.
Interment will be in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
Military services will be accorded by Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.
