Master Sergeant Richard “Dick” Davis, 31, of Black Lick, PA died at POW Camp 5 in Korea on April 8, 1951.
The son of William and Zina (Williams) Davis, he was born December 20, 1919 in Black Lick.
He graduated from Blairsville and joined the Army during World War II. He returned home after the war. The Korean War gave him a reason to re-enlist and he became an Army Master Sergeant. Davis was a member of Company K, 3rd Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division, near Unsan, North Korea, when the Chinese People’s Volunteer Force attacked the regiment.
He is survived by a stepson, James A. Baker (Dorothy) of Cape Coral, FL; five nephews and three nieces, Adrian “Bud” Davis, Judy Davis, Patricia Lyons, Kathy Davis Lawson, Gary Davis, Dave Davis, Dan Davis and John Davis and several great nieces and nephews.
His parents, six brothers and two sisters, Leroy, Adrian, Leon, William, John, Ben, Gwendolyn and Christine and a nephew, William Davis are deceased.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 A.M. Friday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA where a funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M Friday with Rev. Timothy R. Monroe officiating.
Interment with full military honors will be in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville.
