Gail C. Gormley

Gail Cochrane (Thompson) Sterner Gormley, 91, of Crestline, OH, formerly of Blairsville, passed away on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at Hospice of North Central Ohio, Ashland, OH.

The daughter of William H. and Mary E. (Cochrane) Thompson, she was born July 16, 1924 in Blairsville, PA.

Mrs. Gormley lived most of her life in the Blairsville area before moving to Ohio in 2009.  She graduated from Blairsville High School in 1943 and worked at Indiana Hospital from 1966 to 1971 as a nurse’s aide.

She was a lifetime member of the Hebron Lutheran Church, Blairsville, served on the church council and was a past president of the Daughters of Hebron.

She was a past president of the Freeport VFW Auxiliary #6648, past county council president of Armstrong County and past district president of VFW Auxiliary, District 26 and a member of the Historical Society of the Blairsville Area.

Mrs. Gormley enjoyed doing word search puzzles and playing cards.

Survived by her children, Evelyn (Raymond) Stump of Crestline, OH; Edward (Karen) Sterner of Galion, OH; Robert Sterner of Galion, OH; stepchildren, Harry (Kathy) Gormley, Jr. of New Bern, NC; Patrick (Anne) Gormley of Scottsdale, AZ; Patricia (Ronald) Evanko of Blairsville; eight grandchildren; 17 step-grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; 20 step-great grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; 2 step-great-great grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry Gormley on August 14, 2002; son, William Sterner; grandson, William Huffstickler; twin step-great grandchildren, Mercedes Lynn and Maria Patrice San Miguel and one niece.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville.
