Janet L. Reid

July 10, 1940 — January 8, 2016

Janet Lorraine (Duke) Reid, 75, of Tunnelton, PA (Conemaugh Twp.) went from the arms of her family into the arms of the Lord after a brave and Christ centered battle with ovarian cancer on Friday, January 8, 2016 at her home.

The daughter of Joseph Ernest Duke and Ethel (Erb) Duke Bost, she was born July 10, 1940 in Tunnelton.

Janet graduated from Saltsburg High School in 1958 and worked for Indiana County Group Homes and formerly worked for Adelphoi Village.

She was a member of Chapel of Hope, Black Lick and was a former member of Tunnelton Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder.

Surviving are three sons, J. Michael Reid (Hope) of Saltsburg; Brian N. Reid of Saltsburg and Darrin Reid (Aileen) of Avonmore; a daughter, Terry McDowell (Joseph) of Indiana; 12 grandchildren, Christopher Pavelchick, Joshua Reid (Jaime), Shane Reid (Laura), Natasha Miller (Matthew), Ashley Reid, Felicia Reid, Heidi Reid, Jacob Reid, Taylor McDowell, Isaac Reid, James McDowell and Rachel Newlin (Chris); six great grandchildren, Christopher, Ian, Kyleigh, Ashlynn, Charlotte and Dominick; a brother, Ernest Duke (Peggy) of Greensburg; three sisters, Carole Staats (Frank) of Blairsville; Faye Drawl (Rick) of State College and Joan Stano (Steve) of Saltsburg and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, John N. Reid whom she married on July 11, 1959 and passed away on December 29, 2007.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Monday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Chapel of Hope, Black Lick, with Pastor David Kimball officiating.

Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA
