William Dale Thompson, 70, of Blairsville, PA (Burrell Twp.) passed away on Wednesday, September 9, 2015 in Excela Health Westmoreland Hospital, Greensburg, PA. The son of Carson W. and Anna M. (Compton) Thompson, he was born June 25, 1945 in Black Lick Twp., Indiana Co., PA. Bill graduated from Blairsville High School in 1963. He worked for the US Postal Service beginning as a mail carrier in Homer City and retiring as a postmaster in 2000 after working in Bradenville, Bolivar, Berlin, Blairsville and retiring from Latrobe post office. He was a US Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. Bill was a member of the Blairsville VFW Post #5821, former member of the Black Lick VFD, served as a Burrell Twp. supervisor for a number of years and was instrumental in starting the Burrell Twp. Library while serving on the Burrell Twp. Park Board. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, being with family and most recently going to bingo. Surviving are his wife, Kathryn M. (Bracken) Thompson whom he married October 23, 1971; a son, Richard P. Thompson of Blairsville; two daughters, Jennifer L. Fulmer (Eric) of Blairsville and Audrey M. Thompson (companion, Daniel J. Mamrose) of Smithton; two granddaughters, Ashley T. Thompson (fiance, Patrick DePetro) and Isabella R. Fulmer; a brother, Carl W. Thompson (Shirley) of Gray Station and two close cousins, Carl McCracken and Eugene McCracken. He was preceded in death by Joseph and Iola McCracken who raised him and an infant sister, Barbara Jean. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 26, 2015, at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc. with Rev Timothy R. Monroe officiating. Military services will be accorded by Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407
