Paul Howard Barnhart, 85, of Derry, PA (Derry Twp.) passed away on Friday, June 12, 2015 at his home surrounded by his family. The son of Harry H. and Nanny Mildred (Redding) Barnhart, he was born April 5, 1930 in Livermore, PA. Paul graduated from Derry Township High School in 1948 and was a veteran of the US Navy CBEES. Prior to his retirement in 1992, he worked at Blairsville Westinghouse, after his retirement, he worked 10 years for Raven Industries, Inc., Latrobe. Paul and his wife, Arlene, had a home for disabled veterans for a number of years in Derry Township. He was of the Presbyterian faith. He was a member of VFW Post #5821, BPOE #406, Acacia Lodge #355 F & AM, all of Blairsville and was a former member of the Derry Area School Board. Surviving are his wife of 60 years, Arlene L. (Auen) Barnhart whom he married September 18, 1954; five children, Michael P. Barnhart of Blairsville; Darlene Ott (companion, Sherrill) of Sevierville, TN; Paula Ankney (Ron) of Derry Twp.; Debra Smith (Elton) of Midland, TX and Karla Grimes (Lee) of Wytheville, VA; 15 grandchildren, eight great grandchildren; two brothers, Lyle Barnhart (Ellen) of Blairsville and Glenn Barnhart (companion, Edith) of Belle Vernon; two sisters, Ruth Trimble (companion, Bill) of Blairsville and Evelyn Miller (Bud) of Latrobe; a brother-in-law, Bert Miller of Frankfurt, IN and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Kristina Becker Duroe; five brothers, Edward, Harry, Pete, George and Dale Barnhart; two sisters, Marie Strong and Gladys Miller and a daughter-in-law, Theresa Barnhart. As per Paul's wishes, there will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA with Rev. Cory A. Braatz officiating. Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA. If desired, the family requests memorial donations be made to the American Heart Association, Cerebral Palsy Foundation or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.
