Richard Rayburn Shirley, 78, of Black Lick, PA passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2015 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA. The son of Robert C. and Dorothy E. (Palmer) Shirley, he was born August 25, 1936 in Homer City, PA. Mr. Shirley graduated from Blairsville High School in 1954, LPN school at Torrance State Hospital and from auctioneering school. He served as a Burrell Township Supervisor from 1989 to 2001. He was a veteran of the Army having served during the Korean War and worked for Florence Mining, retiring in 1988. Surviving are his wife, Jean M. (Wiley) Shirley; a daughter, Patricia Lynn Burnheimer of Black Lick; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and a sister, Sondra G. Shirley of Blairsville. He was preceded in death by his parents and a daughter, Sheila Sleasman in 1991. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Fred W. Craig officiating. Interment will be in Luther Chapel Cemetery, Coral, PA. Military services will be accorded by Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.
