Eva Mae (Muir) Akins, 89, of Blairsville, PA, passed away on Monday, April 6, 2015 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA. The daughter of Harry J. and Annie E. (Jones) Muir, she was born May 9, 1925 in Burrell Twp., PA. Mrs. Akins lived her entire life in Burrell Twp. and graduated from Blairsville High School in 1943. She was a member of Luther Chapel Lutheran Church, Coral, and worked at Torrance State Hospital for 23 years, retiring in 1990. Mrs. Akins was known for her homemade buns and cookies. She loved to go camping, listening to polka music, eating caramels and she always had time to talk. The little boy that walked her to school became her husband. She married Alvin T. Akins, Sr. on February 5, 1947 and they we married for 57 years until he passed away on January 21, 2004. Surviving are two sons, Ted Akins and his wife, Beverly of Blairsville, and Gary E. Akins and his wife, Sue of Blairsville; a daughter, Linda L. Alsop and her husband, Gary of Coral; four grandchildren, Keith A. Akins, Gayle Lake, Lindsey Dubose and Steven Akins; four great grandchildren; a brother, Leroy M. Muir of St. Louisville, OH and a sister, Betty Jane Loughner of Newark, OH. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Alvin and a brother, Willis J. Muir. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Luther Chapel Lutheran Church, Coral, PA with Rev. Tedd Cogar and Rev. Arlene Schweitzer co-officiating. Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
