Arthur Douglas Whitfield, 94, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015 in the Communities at Indian Haven, Indiana, PA. The son of Milus and Maud (King) Whitfield, he was born October 17, 1920 in Somerset County, PA. Mr. Whitfield was a member of the Second Baptist Church, Blairsville, where he served as a deacon for 30 years and a member of the United Mine Workers of America. He worked 35 years for Leechburg Mining Company, retiring in 1974. He loved hunting and fishing. Surviving are seven children, Arthur L. Whitfield, Sr. and wife, Margaret of Josephine; William C. Whitfield and wife, Toni of Chicago, IL; Charles N. Whitfield of Blairsville; Rev. Russell D. Whitfield, Sr. and wife, Mary of Blairsville; Marlene M. Adams of Blairsville; Marjorie J. Walker and husband, Wallace of Philadelphia and Lynda D. Wilson and husband, Jeffrey of Johnstown; 19 grandchildren; 32 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Aleen (Parker) Whitfield on April 16, 2006; three brothers, Nathaniel, Charles and Russell Whitfield and a sister, Madge Gibson. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Second Baptist Church, 214 E. Campbell St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the Second Baptist Church, Blairsville, with Rev. Ronnie C. Morris, Sr. and Rev Russell D. Whitfield, Jr. co-officiating. Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
