Goldie R. Mcfadden

Goldie Ruth (Gamble) McFadden, 94 of Blairsville, PA (Black Lick Twp.) passed away on Thursday, January 8, 2015 at her home. The daughter of Samuel S. and Lillie R. (Postlewait) Gamble, she was born August 6, 1920 in Trade City, PA (Indiana Co.) Goldie was a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church, Hopewell Ladies Aide for 55 years, the Community Card Club and a member of the former Blairsville Grange #2012. She graduated from Punxsutawney High School in 1939 in which she advanced two grades in school. Goldie was married to the late Paul S. McFadden who died on October 28, 2010. During World War II, Paul and Goldie met in Wilkinsburg, PA at a dance class and were married on November 25, 1944, while Paul was on leave, serving in the Navy. Goldie worked on line at Union Switch and Signal in Wilkinsburg, filling shells for World War II. Paul and Goldie owned McFadden Machine and Manufacturing Company, Blairsville, for 30 years and Goldie was secretary for the company. Surviving are three daughters, Barbara Michna (Roger) of Pittsburgh; Judy Swasy (Charles) of Blairsville and Dr. Debra McFadden Dunlap (Dave) of Pittsburgh; three grandchildren, Mark Michna of Irwin; Monica Michna of Pittsburgh and Brad Swasy of Blairsville; a great grandson, Korey Michna and a brother, Joseph Elmer Gamble of Meadville and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, Paul, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Violet Mae Aul, Sara Jane Koreny and Josephine Eleanor Douglas and two brothers, Harland Guy Gamble and Merle Gamble. A special thank you to all her caregivers who cared for her the last six years and allowed her to stay at home, even until the final days. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Sunday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at the Hopewell United Methodist Church, Hopewell Church Road, Blairsville, PA with Rev. Brett M. Dinger officiating. Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
