Richard M. "Dick" Cummings

November 4, 1949 — October 25, 2014

Richard M. "Dick" Cummings, 64, of Black Lick, PA passed away on Saturday, October 25, 2014 at his home. The son of Richard F. and Lorraine (Tufts) Cummings, he was born November 4, 1949 in Derry, NH. Dick lived most of his life in New Hampshire and moved to the Black Lick after his retirement in 2011 with Ryder Company. He was a Vietnam veteran, having served in the Air Force. Dick was an avid outdoorsman, mentor, and a great friend to many throughout the Northeast. He loved hunting and fishing with his family. His loss is being felt throughout the region. Dick actively sought out ways to help new outdoorsmen and women and was one of the founders of the New England Hunters Network (NEHN). NEHN, an online chat board dedicated to North Eastern US hunters, trappers and fisherman is where many were able, with the help of the Internet, to reach out for advice. It was founded after Dick and two others were unsuccessful in finding a friendly online environment that was hunting, trapping and fishing focused, instead of politics, jokes and other subjects. The site was an instant success. Surviving are his wife, Michele (Blattenberger) Cummings whom he married May 18, 2012; three sons, Shawn R. Cummings (Lisa) of Londonderry, NH; Darrin A. Cummings (Melissa) of Reseda, CA and Nick S. Cummings of Chester, NH; one daughter, Tammy L. Berard (Eric) of Raymond, NH; one stepson, Roger Baird Jr. of Wasilla, AK and one stepdaughter, Julie Jones of Derry; nine grandchildren; one brother, Dennis Cummings of Raymond, NH and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Steven Cummings. As per Dick's wishes, there will be no visitation. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA with Rev. Gerald Small officiating. Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion Post #0407.
