Wallace Copeland Brown, 76, of Blairsville, PA (W. Wheatfield Twp.) passed away on Saturday, May 24, 2014 at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital, Latrobe, PA. The son of Wallace B. and Grace (Embrey) Brown, he was born March 12, 1938 in Aldie, VA. Wally was a member of the Duane Boring VFW Post #9310, Robinson, Bolivar American Legion, Blairsville BPOE #406, Fleet Reserve Association and the Naval Cryptologic Veterans Association. He served in the US Navy from 1956 to 1975, retiring after 20 years as a senior chief communications technician. He also worked for Blairsville Wilbert Vault Co., Inc. for 22 years, retiring in 1999 as a superintendent. Surviving are his wife of almost 51 years, Margaret A. (Muir) Brown whom he married on May 31, 1963; a son, Wallace B. Brown (Lorrie) of Warwick, RI and a daughter, Cathy Patz of Blairsville; seven grandchildren, Kayla Brown, Aubrey Brown, Jasmine Brown, Jason Patz, Justin Patz, Maria Stone (Robert) and David Vasquez (Erin); three great grandchildren, Nevaeh, Quinton and Adronia Vasquez; three sisters, Jane Thomas of Culpeper, VA, Ann Masters of Alexandria, VA and Mary Lou Greenough (Glen) of Ticonderoga, NY and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son-in-law, Jim Patz and two brothers-in-law, Roger Masters and Harrison Thomas. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Cory A. Braatz officiating. Interment will be in Germany Lutheran Cemetery, W. Wheatfield Twp., PA. Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion Post #0407.
