Helen Virginia Kunkle, of Indiana, formerly of New Kensington, passed away on Sunday, May 18, 2014 at UPMC Shadyside Hospital after a brief illness. The daughter of Charles Duffield Myers and Catherine (Lever) Myers, Helen was born December 30, 1924 in New Kensington and graduated New Kensington High School in 1943. On May 4, 1946 Helen, a beautiful, kind and thoughtful woman, married Gerald E. Kunkle, her beloved husband of 68 years. Together they raised a loving and close family who cherished Helen as the center of their world and knew that "Mom" was and would be there for them. Mom's spirit of non sibi (not for oneself) and her joy in living enriched the lives of her loving husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, sisters, nieces, nephews and many friends. Helen and Gerald are members of the Graystone Presbyterian Church in Indiana. Helen is survived by her loving husband Gerald, her children: Karen A. Evans (George) of Indiana, PA, their children Douglas (Jenna) Evans, Sarah (Chad) Stacy, Jonathan (Kelly) Evans, Christopher (Robyn) Evans; Daniel A. Kunkle (Kathy) of Home, PA, their children Isabel Kunkle, Emily Kunkle (Benadicto Gel, her fiancé); Martha "Jane" Balcer (Dave) of Pearl River, LA, their children Graham (Darcy) Balcer, Laurel (Chad) Favre, Seth Balcer (Kelly Hobson, his fiancee); Charles W. Kunkle (Carol) of Myrtle Beach, SC, their children Arthur (Kristina) Kunkle, Catherine (Nick) Hagandora, Anne Kunkle; and John C. Kunkle (Tammy) of Martinsburg, WV, their children Timothy (Kristin) Kunkle and Christine Kunkle. Great grandchildren: Benjamin Evans; Carter, Quinn, Arden, and Marian Stacy; Alexander, Rachelle, and Nathan Evans; Wyatt Evans; Liam and Sarah Helen Favre; Lillian Kunkle; and Rylie Hagandora. Also surviving are Helen's sisters who remained life-long close friends, Elaine (Dick) Flynn and Janet (Bob) Camel and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her sister Ruth and Ruth's husband Don Mason. A memorial service for friends and family will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, May 24, at the Washington Presbyterian Church, 1820 Washington Church Road, Home, PA. (Directions: Turn left off of Route 119 on Washington Church Road and go 1.7 miles to church at intersection of Groft Road and Washington Church Road.)
