William E. "Bill" Crusan, 93, of Black Lick, PA passed away on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA. The son of William L. and Ethel (Bracken) Crusan, he was born November 2, 1920 in Black Lick, PA. Bill graduated from Easton High School in 1937 where he was a letterman on the football, track and field and basketball teams. He entered the US Army in July 1942 as a member of the newly formed parachute infantry division. He honorably served in World War II, including D-Day and the Battle of Bastogne, as a staff sergeant in the highly decorated 101 Airborne Division. He was a retired 50-year member of the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 66. Bill was a lifetime member of International Union of Operating Engineers Local 66, member of 101st Airborne Screaming Eagles, Homer City American Legion Post #493, Blairsville Fraternal Order of Eagles #1488 and a life member of Indiana VFW Post #1989. Bill served as fire chief, township supervisor and was on the parks and recreation board in Burrell Twp. as well as other community organizations. He was an avid golfer and bowler. In addition to winning an attic full of trophies, he was awarded the title of the oldest bowler in Indiana County. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Diane Crusan of Indiana; daughter, Cynthia Wesenberg of Black Lick and daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Ron Laney of Williamson, Georgia; three grandchildren, Jamie Crusan, Jonathan Wesenberg and Lillian Blair Laney and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Florence in 1997; brother, Blair Crusan and three sisters, Dorothy Dreher, Lucille Miers and Marybelle Smith. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Monday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday at the funeral home with Rev. Timothy R. Monroe officiating. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Indiana. Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.
