Joseph Floyd Kanyan, 86, of Blairsville, PA (Black Lick Twp.) passed away on Thursday, March 27, 2014 at Beacon Ridge, Indiana, PA. The son of Joseph C. and Bertha (Szimiczka) Kanyan, he was born May 4, 1927 in Black Lick Twp., PA. Mr. Kanyan was a member of St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Black Lick, PA and was a veteran of the Navy during World War II. He worked for 36 years at Latrobe Steel, Latrobe, retiring in 1991 and also worked on the family farm in Black Lick Twp. He enjoyed hunting on the farm and training field trial beagles. Surviving are a brother, Robert Kanyan (Donna) of Indiana and a sister, Doris Treece of Peoria, AZ and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in parents; a brother, Edward Eugene Kanyan; two sisters, Christine Wick and Betty Igrisan and a half-sister, Ethel Byrnes. The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 P.M. Sunday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A burial service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Monday at St. John the Baptist Orthodox Church, Black Lick, PA with Rev. Fr.
