James M. "Flick" Flickinger, 69, of Brenizer, PA passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at his home. The son of Lawrence and Anna I. (Gumbita) Flickinger, he was born May 31, 1944. He worked as a union roofer for the Pennsylvania Roofing Systems for 45 years. Flick was of the catholic faith and was a member of the Derry Rod and Gun Club, former Sokol Club, Blairsville, Latrobe-Derry Bowling League and a social member of the Blairsville VFW Post #5821. He loved sports, enjoyed hunting, gardening, woodworking and painting. Surviving are his daughter, Renee' Peterson of Brenizer; two sons, John Flickinger (Beth) of Cecil and Daniel Flickinger (Kelly) of Greensburg; two grandchildren, Nicolette Peterson and Hayden Flickinger; a brother, William "Sonny" Flickinger of Kansas; three sisters, Sis Lentz of Blairsville; Nancy Fridley of Ligonier and Joann Spangler of Beaver; and several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Lawrence Flickinger Jr., George "Jack" Flickinger and Fred Flickinger and a sister, Anne "Minnie" Lamantia. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A Blessing Service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday in the funeral home with Fr. Stephen C. West officiating. Interment will be in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, PA The family would like to give a special thank you to Walnut Ridge Memory Care, Greensburg and to Heartland Hospice for their care.
