Frederick Herbert Gould, Jr., 91, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 at Loyalhanna Care Center in Latrobe, PA. The son of Frederick H. Gould, Sr. and Marie (Carnahan) Gould, he was born March 30, 1922 in Black Lick, PA. Fred was a partner in Gould's Bottled Gas for over 40 years and was a World War II Army veteran serving in the Philippines. He was a member of the United Presbyterian Church, Blairsville, Past Commander of VFW Post #5821, Acacia Lodge #355 F & AM, a life member of BPOE #406, one of the founding members of the Blairsville Little League in 1951, and was in charge of the Memorial Flags at the Blairsville Cemetery for many years. Fred enjoyed being an umpire for 58 years (1951-2009). In 1980, one of his greatest honors was when he was chosen to umpire in the Little League World Series Championship Game. He umpired Slow Pitch Softball in PA and FL for over 50 years establishing himself as one of the best to umpire in the area. Surviving are a son, Dana Gould (Margaret) of Blairsville; a daughter, Linda Knapp of The Villages, FL, Fiancée Irene Fatora; sister-in-law Lois Gould, four grandchildren, Jennifer White (Rob), Amanda Heitmuller (Frank), Ryan Muir (Stephanie), and Susie Baltazar (Dwight); and five greatgrandchildren, Braedyn White, Addison White, Olivia Heitmuller, Corbin Baltazar, and Avary Baltazar, along with several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty in 2005, his parents, one brother Jack Gould, two sisters Marjorie Coy and Joan Stratton, and greatgrandson Jackson Heitmuller. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Tuesday, February 18th at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the United Presbyterian Church in Blairsville with Rev. Timothy R. Monroe officiating. Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA. Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and American Legion Post #0407.
