Joseph Preston Hoak, 72, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Tuesday, January 28, 2014 at the Washington Hospital, Washington, PA. The son of Robert J. and Bessie M. (Smock) Hoak, he was born September 19, 1941 in Natrona Heights, PA. Mr. Hoak was a history enthusiast, enjoyed hunting, fishing and watching war and western movies. Prior to his retirement in 1996, he worked for Gearhart/Owens, Kent, PA and was a veteran of the Army. Surviving are his wife, Marsha Ann (Reynolds) Hoak whom he married on October 16, 1966; three daughters, Michelle L. Harris of Blairsville; Sharon L. Broaddus (Cody) of Hershey and Melissa A. McGovern (Michael) of Canonsburg; four grandchildren; a brother, Lewis D. Hoak of Leechburg and a sister, Juanita Hill (Ron) of Conway, SC. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Robert Hoak II and Steven J. Hoak. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 P.M. Friday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. Fred W. Craig officiating. Interment will be in the Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
