Wilbert Alvin Shaffer, 90, of Black Lick, PA passed away on Saturday, January 4, 2014 at Countryside Convalescent Home, Mercer, PA. The son of Roy and Margaret (Neely) Shaffer, he was born February 21, 1923 in Black Lick, PA. Mr. Shaffer lived most of his life in Black Lick and was a member of the Black Lick United Methodist Church, life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars USA and life member of the Blairsville VFW Post #5821. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army and prior to his retirement, he was employed by Latrobe Construction. Surviving are his daughter, Sharon Nicholson of Derry; brother, Don Frain (Garnet) of Bolivar; a special niece, Barbara Cutler of Hermitage and several other nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Blanche V. (Bennett) Shaffer in 1986; three sisters, Martha Repine, Margaret Nicotera and Helen Bennett. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 P.M. Tuesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A funeral service will be held at 4:00 P.M. at the funeral home with Rev. Brett M. Dinger officiating. Interment will be in Luther Chapel Cemetery, Coral, PA. Military services will be accorded by Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion Post #0407.
