Thelma Ruth (Cobes) Ometz, 79, of New Derry, PA went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at Excela Health Latrobe Hospital, Latrobe, PA.A daughter of Philip E. and Mary E. (Lyons) Cobes, she was born April 3, 1931 in Derry Twp., PA.Mrs. Ometz was a member of Gray Station Community Church and the Derry Area Historical Society. She graduated from Derry Township High School in 1949, served as judge of elections in New Derry and was a volunteer at Torrance State Hospital library as a tutor.Surviving are her husband, Frank J. Ometz Sr. whom she married June 28, 1952; two sons, Frank J. Ometz Jr. and his wife, Roseanne of Ligonier and Matthew E. Ometz and his partner, Phillip Herrington of Pittsburgh and a daughter, Farris L. Welsh and her husband, Joseph of Beavercreek, OH; three grandchildren; Aaron J. Ometz, Samuel Conley and Rachel Conley; three great grandchildren; and a sister, Erma Nichol of Derry Twp.She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Philip Cobes.The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 P.M. Tuesday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Wednesday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. James R.
