Ronald E. "Pete" Baker, 85, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Friday, October 7, 2011 at Scenery Hill Manor, Indiana, PA.A son of Joseph J. and Kathryn E. (Griffith) Baker, he was born January 14, 1926 in Blairsville, PA.Mr. Baker lived his entire life in Blairsville and attended Blairsville High School.He was a member of the Hebron Lutheran Church, Blairsville and was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army.Prior to his retirement in 1992, he worked for 30 years as a mail carrier for the US Postal Service, Blairsville. He enjoyed talking about the history of Blairsville and woodworking.Surviving are a daughter, Jessie Baker of Anaheim, CA and a son, William Baker of Laurel, MD; three grandchildren, Lance Yurt, John Kennedy and Alexandria Delaney; a great grandson, Adrian; seven brothers and sisters, Joe Baker of Lewes, DE; Art Baker of Blairsville; Andy Baker of Blairsville; Peg Leicht of Etters; Ed Baker of Wilmington, DE; Edith Scobel of Blairsville and Mildred Pittman of Blairsville and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kay (Tressler) Baker on January 13, 1998; two sisters, Martha Baker and Dorothy Baker and a brother, William Baker.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Monday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at the Hebron Lutheran Church, Blairsville, with Rev. Tiffany Marvich officiating.Interment will be in Blairsville Cemetery, Blairsville.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion Post #0407.Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
