Joseph Daniel Mikeska, 91, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at St. Andrew's Village, Indiana, PA.A son of Tom and Margaret (Yatso) Mikeska, he was born March 8, 1920 in Josephine, PA.Mr. Mikeska was a member of Our Lady of the Assumption, Coral, where he was a lector and usher and member of the Holy Name Society. He was also a member of the UMWA #3548, Blackleggs Trout Nursery and the Burrell Twp. Rod and Gun Club.He loved hunting and fishing and was an avid Steelers and Pirates fan.After retiring from the Pittsburgh Brewing Company, he worked for R & P Coal Company for 10 years. Surviving are his wife, Anna Marie (Strini) Grove Mikeska whom he married March 8, 1972; a daughter, Denise Martinez and husband, Jim of Albuquerque, NM; a stepson, Thomas A. Grove and fiance, Sharon of Blairsville and a stepdaughter, Sandra Avalli and husband, Edward of Blairsville; four grandchildren, Terri Horchar, Tracy Clawson, Kelli Geary and Thomas L. Grove; eight great grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Hobbs of Vero Beach, FL and Margaret Zamboni of Pittsburgh and a brother, George Mikeska and wife, Mary of Worthington, PA and several nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Helen Becker and two brothers, Martin Mikeska and Thomas Mikeska.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Friday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. A Prayer Service will be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 9:30 A.M. followed by a Funeral Mass at 10:00 A.M. at Our Lady of the Assumption, Coral, with Fr. Terry Hercik as celebrant.Interment will follow in SS Simon & Jude Cemetery, Blairsville, PA.
