Charles Edward Held, 83, formerly of Blairsville, PA passed away on Thursday, June 9, 2011 at Good Samaritan Hospice, Cabot, PA.A son of Clarence Elmer Held and Hulda Christine (Reed) Held Newhouse, he was born September 16, 1927 in Blairsville, PA.Charles was a US Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the American Legion, Cowansville, PA Charles is survived by his special niece, Beverley Kaye (Held) Owens and husband, Amos of Medina, OH; sister-in-law, Mary (Gilbert) Reed of Newport News, VA and several other nieces and nephews residing in various locations throughout the United States. He was preceded in death by his parents; stepfather, Harry Albert Newhouse; two brothers, Elmer Eugene Held and wife, Ruth Bernice (Shoup) and James Alfred Held killed during WWII; two sisters, Dorothy Edna (Held) McKlveen Hammer and Mary Elizabeth (Held) Dublin; two stepbrothers, Albert Leon Reed and Ralph William Newhouse killed during WWII; four stepsisters, Helen Margaret "Tootie" (Newhouse) Cowan and husband, Jack; Violet Marie "Bud" (Newhouse) Iscrupe and husband, John; Sarah Dorothy "Honey" (Newhouse) Wilson and husband, Vincent and Florence E. "Babe" (Newhouse) Yoh and husband, Herbert; a niece, Gloria Jean "Tootie" Sipe and a grand nephew, Bret Michael Owens.Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday, June 20, 2011 at the Blairsville Cemetery with Rev. Timothy R. Monroe officiating.Memorial contributions may be made to the Historical Society of the Blairsville Area or to the VNA Hospice of Indiana County.
