Gerald Francis Resides, Sr., 72, of Ligonier, PA passed away on Friday, January 28, 2011 at Hempfield Manor, Greensburg, PA.The son of Charles A. and Wilma (Henderson) Resides, he was born June 11, 1938 in Latrobe, PA.Mr. Resides attended the Hillside United Methodist Church and was a member of the American Legion Post #0945, Harrisburg; Marienville Rod & Gun Club; VFW of Marienville and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.He graduated from Derry Area High School in 1956 and attended Catawba University in North Carolina.He was a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served in the Army.He was the first lifeguard hired at Keystone State Park. He worked for the state of Pennsylvania as a park superintendent for 22 years, retiring in 1983. He then worked for the Derry Area School District as director of buildings and grounds and retired in 1997 from the Mt. Pocono School District in the same position.Surviving are his wife, Deloris Mae (McAdams) Resides whom he married May 21, 1964; two children, Gerald F. Resides, Jr. and his wife, Mary of Blairsville and Molly A. Gross of Ligonier; five grandchildren, Tyler M. Gross, Colton T. Gross, Katlyn Resides, Ian M. Resides and Gerald F. Resides III; two brothers, Robert Resides and his wife, Jean of Latrobe and Douglas T. Resides and his wife, Sherrie of Ridgeway and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 P.M. Monday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. Monday at the funeral home with Rev. Ray Kerr officiating.Interment will be private.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post #5821 and the American Legion Post #0407.
