Lloyd J. "Buzz" Duncan, 89, of Blairsville, PA passed away on Monday, January 24, 2011 at his home.The son of David Lloyd and Edna (Waddle) Duncan, he was born February 28, 1921 in Livermore, PA.Mr. Duncan was a member of the Trinity Presbyterian Church, Clarksburg, where he served as a trustee and elder, member and past master of Acacia Lodge #355 F&AM, Blairsville, member of Carpenters Union 2274, Pittsburgh, where he worked as a carpenter foreman and was a lifetime member of VFW Post 1989, Indiana.He served four years in the US Army Air Corps during World War II in the Asiatic Pacific Theater and was discharged as a technical sergeant B-29 crew chief.He worked 25 years for T.W. Phillips Gas and Oil Co., retiring in 1983 as a superintendent.Mr. Duncan enjoyed his family, hunting, fishing and working in his garden and wood shop.Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Mary Ellen (Griffith) Duncan; three children, David R. "Dog" Duncan of Blairsville; Daniel L. Duncan and his wife, Cheryl H. of Uniontown and Debra E. Hall and her husband, Keith of Derry; four grandchildren, Duran Hall, Kasey Holmes, Dana Duncan and Jane Duncan-Kowalczyk; three great grandchildren, Keeno Arrington, Kaylan Holmes and Kali Holmes; a sister, Olive Ferguson and her husband, Clare of Blairsville and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Albert and Charles and two sisters, Gladys Ewing and Norma Beard.The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 P.M. Wednesday at the Shoemaker funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. Thursday at the funeral home with Rev. Dr. Tom R. Jones officiating.Interment will be in Edgewood Cemetery, Saltsburg, PA.Military services will be accorded by the Blairsville VFW Post # 5821 and American Legion Post #0407.Masonic services will be held in the funeral home on Wednesday as 7:30 P.M. Memorial contributions may be made to the Trinity Presbyterian Church, 18 Clarksburg Road, Clarksburg, PA 15725.
