Daniel Joseph Showalter, 72, of Blairsville, PA (Blacklick Twp.) passed away on Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Indiana Regional Medical Center, Indiana, PA.The son of Barry and Mary (Ryan) Showalter, he was born February 28, 1939 in Johnstown, PA.Mr. Showalter was of the catholic faith and worked 35 years at Bilo in Indiana, retiring as the bakery manager.He loved his dog, Ruby and the Pittsburgh Penguins.Surviving are his wife, Donna L. (McNulty) Showalter whom he married December 11, 1992; two daughters, Debra Gorgone of Johnstown and Luann Herter and her husband, Richard of Johnstown; a stepson, Christopher Darr and his wife, Brenda of Indiana and a stepdaughter, Kimberly Rice of Johnstown; 13 grandchildren and four great grandchildren.He was preceded in death by his parents; a grandson, Lukas Rice and three brothers, Fred Showalter, Richard Showalter and Joseph Garfoyle.The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 P.M. Saturday at the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc., 49 N. Walnut St., Blairsville, PA where a funeral service will be held at 8:00 P.M. with Fr. Tim officiating. Interment will be private.Memorial contributions may be made to the Shoemaker Funeral Home, Inc. on behalf of Mr. Showalter.
